Behavior Log  (Please note that this section is currently under revision.)
In order for us to do our best learning, students are expected to come to class prepared to learn and to be respectful to their classmates. Students will have an agenda in their PIRATE binder for us to track their accomplishments and any behavior problems that may occur. Students who make great choices in class will be rewarded in a variety of ways. In order for students to participate in special events, they must have all work turned in. However, students who have lost their privileges will have to complete unfinished work or reflect on their behavior. This event will happen several times each trimester. Please monitor your child's log and speak with them regarding their classroom responsibilities and choices. Sign in's for behavior will require your initials.

Homework Chart
In the homework section you will find your child's homework chart. This is where your child will keep track of their nightly assignments. We also put major assignments, like long term projects, on our class calendar on the website. Students are required to read 20 minutes every night in addition to their 30-60 minutes of homework. You can expect to have math homework on most nights, but it may require work online instead of paper/pencil. Occasionally we will not send Math homework home when we are introducing concepts, testing, and on Fridays. On those nights, students may use online resources to review or learn new skills. Students also need to practice their math facts nightly to gain proficiency. Students may have activities during the week to help them learn their word study words. Also, content area homework will be assigned as needed to extend a topic or learning we are doing in the classroom. In most situations, this type of assignment will consist of students interacting with content through Edmodo and posting their response.

Birthday Celebrations
We celebrate birthdays once a month with an extra recess time. We will sing to your child, present him/her with the birthday sticker and birthday card designed by a classmate. Birthday invitations may be passed out in class if all students are invited. Otherwise, please mail your invitations outside of school.

Snacks
Unfortunately I have a severe peanut, citrus, and soy allergy and I also know we have several students who also have food allergies. In order for our classroom to be a healthy and safe place for all learners, please send in snacks from only the approved list. Snacks should be healthy. Students are allowed to get their snacks in the morning during read aloud or independent work times.

Absences
We all get sick from time to time. If your child will be missing school due to illness, please call in your child's absence to the front office. We will work with your child to makeup work that is missed. Please try to limit absences for appointments and personal vacations. Much of the learning your child will be experiencing will be hands-on and interactive. It is the teacher's discretion to assign makeup work for personal days. Students may need to stay in at recess to catch up on missed work.

Volunteering
Volunteers will be recruited as needed for special events, projects, and assistance in the classroom. You will receive an email with the sign up link a few weeks before each event. We ask that families only sign up for one classroom event and one field trip event to give all parents the opportunity to participate. We appreciate the support you provide us and your willingness to come into the classroom. We will need volunteers to plan and organize our Fall Festival, Colonial Day, Winter Festival Party, Science Center Field Trip, Tubac, and Tucson Symphony Trip.
